It was a dream come true for metal fans to see former Guns N’ Roses bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan performing together once again in Velvet Revolver. Reuniting with drummer Matt Sorum (who had joined Guns N’ Roses for the recording of their 1991 double album Use Your Illusion), Velvet Revolver would see the musicians taking a new direction by teaming up with guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. Following their debut single, Set Me Free (which was included on the soundtrack to the blockbuster Hulk in 2003), the band released their debut album, Contraband, the following year and enjoyed both commercial and critical success, aided by the hit single Slither.
In 2005, the band embarked on a North American tour, which saw them performing throughout March and April in such cities as Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, D.C. and Seattle. On April 2nd, Velvet Revolver were filmed during a show at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. Eagle Rock Entertainment will be releasing the concert on DVD as Live in Houston on November 16th. Along with the performance, the video also features interview footage with each member, discussing the origins of Velvet Revolver. For a taste of what to expect, check out this teaser of the group performing Slither, taken from the DVD.
