In much the same way as Alice Cooper in the 1970s and Marilyn Manson in the 1990s, Los Angeles shock rockers W.A.S.P. were one of the most controversial metal acts of the 1980s. Falling foul of the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) due to the controversy surrounding their first single, Animal (Fuck Like A Beast), the band gained popularity through appearances on music channels and metal magazines, whilst scoring minor success with such classics as L.O.V.E. Machine, Wild Child and their Ghoulies II anthem Scream Until You Like It. Fronted by Black Lawless and at one time featuring guitarist Chris Holmes (whose indulgence in the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle was documented in Penelope Spheeris’ The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years.

Blabbermouth have shed light on an unauthorised biography that is currently in the works from English writer Darren Upton. A brief synopsis of the book is featured on the official site; “Discover Inside: Who originally named the band W.A.S.P. What really happened to Tony Richards.
