KCRA in Sacramento are reporting that the studio owned by Tesla has been destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Thursday morning, which also caused major damage to an adjacent apartment. The group, who first gained acclaim for their live album Five Man Acoustical Jam and their breakthrough Psychotic Supper (which featured the singles Edison’s Medicine and What You Give), had stored much of their memorabilia on the premises, although firefighters apparently were able to save some equipment.
KCRA’s Brian Hickey, who was on the scene, informed viewers during a morning broadcast: “More than eighty firefighters coming out here with this three-alarm response, a lot of them now packing up, getting ready to go home. Several crews will definitely be on the scene for hours, mopping up this fire that has destroyed this Victorian home right here in front, and behind it another detached building J Street Recorders, owned and operated by Brian Wheat, the bass guitarist and songwriter for the Sacramento band Tesla. This morning, when residents first noticed that this was all happening, they say the flames were already shooting out the roof. A lot of them report seeing a bright flash, they report hearing some kind of electrical surge.”
According to their Wikipedia page: “In 2010, the band announced that they are working on material for a new album. Also in 2010 the band announced they will be playing at Rocklahoma MAY 2010.”
So I imagine some material for their new album may also have been destroyed.
