When former members of Guns N’ Roses reconvened earlier this month for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, fans hoped for some kind of “classic era” reunion. Yet frontman Axl Rose’s public announcement that he would not be attending the event soon brought this possibility to an end. No one was more crushed than Steven Adler, who drummed with the group during the late before being fired during the early stages of Use Your Illusion. Last year he published his autobiography, My Appetite for Destruction, and has on numerous occasions expressed his desire to bring the old line-up back together.
But following Rose’s snub of the Hall of Fame honour, Adler claims that he no longer hopes for a reunion. In an interview with Rolling Stone he says; “That’s totally out of my system. I was hoping that the five of us would have been there to play and show our respect to the fans, but the three of us who really do care about what our fans think and how much they’ve done for us were there, and we showed our love and respect… If it was going to happen, that’s when it was going to happen, and in Axl’s letter, he showed his true colours to the world. After that, that’s it. Like I said, the main person I wanted to end that chapter with, and I’m going to start a new chapter with, was Slash.” He then went on to discuss his new group; “The world needs a new rock and roll band. And we’re just the guys to do it. It’s the greatest way to start a new chapter in my life.”
