Balls Out Complaint

Hair metal throwbacks Steel Panther have become the target of protest from Imkaan, a charity devoted to helping ethnic women and victims of violence. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) reported that the charity’s issues were because the artwork for their new album Balls Out was “offensive, because they considered the image of the woman was demeaning and overtly sexual in its nature” and “unsuitable for public display where it might be seen by children.”

The ASA also revealed that the band’s record label, Universal Music Group, argued that Steel Panther “were a pastiche of an 80s heavy metal band who took their inspiration from bands such as Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. The band’s stage performance and persona were very tongue in cheek, nothing about them was serious and their concept was a send-up of the typical 80s band, although their music was new and original.”

The group are known for their outrageous and sexually explicit lyrics, as was evident with fan favourites Community Property and Fat Girl (Thar She Blows), while the new album included a tracks entitled Supersonic Sex Machine, Let Me Cum In and It Won’t Suck Itself.

Drummer Stix Zadinia responded by saying, “Apparently we are a bit too “ballsy” when it comes to our record cover. We should have put a giant pussy on the cover.”
