NEWS – *Shelsmusic Compilation Album to be Released… For Free

On December 5th, the record label *Shelsmusic will release its 2nd compilation album… and for the first week it will be FREE to download.
*Shelsmusic Compilation 2 will feature eight songs, compiled from previous *Shelsmusic releases from 2009 and 2010. It will be available for free on the label’s website from December 5th until December 12th.
A CD version will also be available, limited to 100 copies. This will be available for pre-order on the label’s website this Friday (November 18th).
The track list will be as follows:

2. Admiral Angry – Android
3. Sons Of Noel And Adrian – Elsa’s House
4. Pretend – Those Luminous Noises Are God
5. Latitudes – Antechamber
6. Brother/Ghost – Waal
7. Parliament Of Owls – Hateful Wrists
8. The Ascent Of Everest – Safely Caged In Bone
*Shelsmusic is home to several talented bands from both the US and the UK, most of which would probably be described as “post-rock” – but there is variety in the label’s repertoire, ranging from full-on metal to acoustic, folk-ish music. This compilation shows off the work of eight of these bands, offering a good opportunity for the uninitiated to sample their music.
The album starts off with the beautifully haunting Sons of Ghosts by Swedish band EF and the majority of the songs follow suit, offering up post-rock that, whilst wavering from brooding to uplifting and mixing quiet with loud, share a core of serenity; a fragile beauty that threatens to crack at any moment.
However, it’s not all calm and serene. The anguished vocals towards the end of Brother/Ghost‘s Waal work well in front of a wall of noise and Latitudes‘ Antechamber summons a sense of menace at times, driven by a hypnotic drumbeat. The second track, Android by Admiral Angry, is a brutal and chaotic outburst which really stands out, in style, from the rest of the songs on here.
If you are new to the bands on *Shelsmusic then this is a great place to start and anyone with even a remote interest in post-rock or the associated genres would be mad to miss out – especially whilst it’s available for free.
