The Crue

Thirty years ago, Mötley Crüe were a young, unsigned band making a name for themselves around the Los Angeles club scene in such iconic venues as the Whisky A Go Go and the Troubadour, but within a year they had been signed to Elektra (the label previously responsible for The Doors), had re-recorded their debut album and were set to become one of the most popular rock bands of the next decade.

In the years that followed, they would overcome drug addiction, manslaughter and countless lawsuits as they attempted to remain relevant in an ever-changing musical landscape.

In honour of their contributions to the Los Angeles music scene, the Sunset Strip Music Festival has named Mötley Crüe this year’s ‘honorees.’ This year’s event will take place from Thursday, August 18th until Saturday the 20th at six clubs around the strip, including the Roxy Theatre and the Viper Room, whilst the band will also receive a special day in their honour from the City of West Hollywood. Previous acts to receive a similar tribute are Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine.
