While Enter Shikari have gained considerable acclaim in the world of metal over the last few years, with Ultimate Guitar describing 2009′s Common Dreads as “a beast of an album,” members of the band have also achieved modest success through their side projects, with frontman Rou Reynolds and drummer Rob Rolfe performing DJ sets under the pseudonyms Rout and Sgt. Rolfy, respectively.
“We all try and think of music as music and not really something that needs to be just one certain way,” Reynolds told Lithium Magazine in an interview last month. “We were lucky enough to grow up in a really thriving music scene so we feel kind of comfortable in punk or drum and bass and be able to put it into our music. We are quite lucky in that respect, I suppose.”
Enter Shikari were invited by BBC to perform a guest DJ set for Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 show, resulting in a twenty-six minute mix that incorporated various dance tracks with such classics as Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
