NEWS – Have Dream Theater Found a New Drummer?

Early this month drummer Mike Portnoy had revealed via his official site that his services to Avenged Sevenfold were no longer required, stating that “The band has decided to carry on into 2011 without me…I had a great time with them throughout 2010, but it was their choice to end the relationship at the end of 2010 as was always the initial plan.”

Back in September, Portnoy had announced that he had left progressive metallers Dream Theater, whom he had been with since their formation in 1985 and when he attempted to re-join the band after being fired from Avenged Sevenfold he was refused.

Blabbermouth now report that Marco Minnemann is set to join Dream Theater as Portnoy’s replacement; “40-year-old international drumming sensation Marco Minnemann (Kreator, Necrophagist) is strongly rumored to have joined Dream Theater as the replacement for the recently departed Mike Portnoy… German native Minnemann — who currently resides in San Diego, California — is looked upon by his peers as one of the most gifted, innovative, cutting-edge drummers on the international music scene today.”
