The Golem

Pixies frontman Frank Black (aka Black Francis) continues to be one of the hardest working artists in rock, with his current production Bluefinger: The Fall And Rise Of Herman Brood currently gaining acclaim at Houston’s Catastrophic Theatre. Paul Wegener’s silent classic Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam/The Golem, which itself was a reworking of an earlier Wegener picture and a novel by Gustav Meyrink. Originally released in its native Germany in 1920, the movie has since been hailed as one of the most influential of the pre ‘talkies.’

Although Francis has not performed the music live in two years, the music is to be released as a double album, having been recorded at Hyde Street Studios with producer Eric Drew Feldman. Regarding the album, the Pixies’ have revealed; “In early 2010, the double album, along with recordings from the live performance in 2008 and a DVD, were compiled into a special, limited edition booklet. Only 500 copies were released and sold exclusively through the Black Francis web store. However, November 16th will see the official release of The Golem Rock Album: a stunning one-hour ‘rock opera’ derived from the original 2-disc album. To accompany the album, the DVD with complete score (both housed in simple & elegant, eco-friendly packaging) will also be available exclusively through the Black Francis web store and Amazon.com.”
