Former Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Commits Suicide

Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch has died at the age of sixty-six, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest. The musician, who in the years since departing from the group has released numerous solo albums, was found alongside a suicide note by his wife in their home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Welch first joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971 following the departure of original guitarist Jeremy Spencer and performed on five of their albums during the early 1970s, leaving shortly before the recording of their self-titled 1975 classic which saw the arrival of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Regarding the tragedy Nicks told the Associated Press; “The death of Bob Welch is devastating… I had many great times with him after Lindsey and I joined Fleetwood Mac. He was an amazing guitar player – he was funny, sweet – and he was smart. I am so very sorry for his family and for the family of Fleetwood Mac – so, so sad.”
