Mickey Mouse Unknown Pleasures

Joy Division seem the most unlikely source of inspiration for Disney, yet the family-friendly company have released a new t-shirt inspired by the bands 1979 debut album Unknown Pleasures. Released through cult label Factory Records, the record featured the classic tracks She’s Lost Control and New Dawn Fades but failed to gain much interest until the success of non-album single Love Will Tear Us Apart the following year.

“Does Disney know that the singer of this band hanged himself?! Do they know where the name Joy Division comes from?!,” asked Pitchfork, who brought attention to the item on the Disney website. It is believed that the band took their name from camps run by the Nazis during the Second World War in which female prisoners were used as sex slaves for German officers.
