They were around for a brief time but British rock group Romeo’s Daughter managed to enjoy a few minor triumphs, despite barely gaining attention on the mainstream. Most known for their contribution to the soundtrack of A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, in which they released the track Heaven in the Backseat, as well as Heart‘s cover of their song Wild Child on their hit album Brigade, Romeo’s Daughter would release just three singles in the late 1980s before a shift in the music industry left them obsolete. Their debut single Don’t Break My Heart was released in 1988 and enjoyed regular airplay on such shows as Power Hour in the UK, which was soon followed by the more successful I Cry Myself to Sleep at Night.
Some of the appeal of Romeo’s Daughter was their singer Leigh Matty, a long-legged brunette with pouting lips that catered to their male audience’s adolescent fantasies. The video for Heaven in the Backseat, which had first been released on the band’s eponymous debut album, was originally to have been shot on the set of the latest Elm Street movie but by the time the band were able to began filming the studio were working on the gorier aspects of the flick. Instead the video consisted of a live performance, whilst Matty sat seductively in the back of a limo, intercut with footage from the movie. After disbanding in 1993 Romeo’s Daughter eventually reformed in 2008.
